The Tiger cubs had a GO SEE IT on February 14th, and while there weren't many present, here's what we learned:

We got to see how the plant takes in water from the Cahaba river and processes it so we can drink it.
The plant employees test the water many times before it is send out to homes and the water is also tested while in the pipes on its way to our homes.
They have a fish tank there with about 20 fish in it. This tank is filled by the plant water on a constant basis. If a fish dies the plant workers must do a lot of additional tests to make sure the fish didn't dye because of something in the water. The plant is over 100 years old and now pumps out over 50 million gallons a day. Once the water is ready to send out, it is stored in tanks so even rain doesn't get in it. This water is called
finished water. The finished water is protected by gates and security guards. It even has a very powerful electric fence all the way around it that is so powerful the Kent Thrash said he could hear it humming. The whole system is controlled by a big computer that lets the plant workers check on it and control all the many water filters and pumps not only on the property were we toured but all over Birmingham.
